Writing for journal articles (or writing science) is not a creative process per se. We certainly do not ask writers to create a text which no other scientist has ever written before. Yes, we want the content to be original, we need the content to contribute to science, but the format in which it is presented has to meet the standards journals present. As such, articles that have been accepted and published provide a rich source for analysis. We call this genre analysis. In genre analysis, we look at the rhetorical moves scientists make. The first analysis will be conducted on Introductions.
